Me, being a business person, a person who has a helper at home, etc, i have came into contact with MOM on different occasions. On issues relating to employment, i find that they tend to side more to toward the employees rather than be neutral. On workplace safety and health matters, they have a regulation that every workplace are required to have a... Me, being a business person, a person who has a helper at home, etc, i have came into contact with MOM on different occasions. On issues relating to employment, i find that they tend to side more to toward the employees rather than be neutral. On workplace safety and health matters, they have a regulation that every workplace are required to have a first aid kit. During random checks to companies, they will still pass you if you have a big first aid kit with only 3 pcs of plaster inside. So this regulation is basically redundant and they do not really care. But i feel its important. The worse part of MOM, is that they are allowing people from other countries - especially China, who are not capable of speaking even basic english, to work in Singapore as a businessperson or in a position where they have to speak and deal with people everyday as part of their job. E.g. At restaurants, hotels, coffeeshops, stalls, and in shopping centre as cashiers or retail sales. On the other hand, i would say they are doing a good job in terms of protecting employees by coming up with certain guidelines that companies has to follow. So companies cannot take advantage of employees weakness and or cheat employees. That is nice. Read more
