One of the first search engines, and tries to be all things to all people. How many people still ask "do you Yahoo?" this was in existence long before Google became a verb. Yahoo used to be the go-to search engine. It is particularly good for the finance and business information, I find, so that's why I gave it an extra star.

You can name your search, refine through various criteria and still return a lot of options. You can contact the manufacturer direct and they will get back to you. Delivery times vary greatly, so don't expect anything to come back in a hurry, but some offer free shipping, which generally means the price you see is the price you pay. Read more

Dropbox has been around a long time and they seem to get it right. Seems simple, quick and efficient. Read more

It is a bit slow to load, due to the high graphic content, but that is a minor point, I think. The site itself is well laid out, pix down either side with headlines and a paragraph underneath each. The translated text seems very good, sometimes one sees words out of order or incorrect on other translated sites, but this doesn't appear to be the case here. The articles are clear, interesting and informative. The overall impression is uncluttered, yet full of content. The site is menu and sub menu driven, which makes it easy to navigate. There are adverts, but not too many to make the site difficult. Read more

Like The Arlo Guthrie song "Alice's Restaurant", you really can get anything you want from YouTube. Want a video of an obscure half-forgotten song from your early years? YouTube it. Want to see how to make a soldering iron from a lighter and some other stuff? YouTube it. Need to know where the flange batterer is on your houghmagandy?... Want to see how to make a soldering iron from a lighter and some other stuff? YouTube it. Need to know where the flange batterer is on your houghmagandy? YouTube it (probably). It would be (and was) fantastic, brilliant, entertaining, inspiring, all that and more, but the adverts, the adverts.........oh they drive me to distraction. I have a little challenge to see how fast I can hit the skip ad button, once it becomes available. 0.4 seconds is best so far. I'm pretty slow so I betyou can do better. Read more

I really dislike the intrusive nature of Bing, I don't have an issue with the results, or how it performs, I just don't like being pushed into using it from my laptop. Its fast, easy to use, intuitive and so on, so I think this is more to do with me being 'conditioned' to use the unmentionable-but-begins-with-G search behemoth, than actually about Bing And I'm not fussed on the name: what's in a name? Again, this is personal thing, but for me: Bing Go! Read more

Netflix is a fantastic concept: choose from any number of films, TV shows, watch and re-watch your favourites, discover new things that you wouldn't normally appreciate. For a reasonable low monthly subscription, you get access to so much entertainment. There are easy categories to choose from, I particularly like how they categorise things, so if you've enjoyed a particular comedy, say, they will suggest other things you might like. If I have one criticism, it is this. If you are a user in say, Spain, then try to view your account in say, the UK, not all programmes, or movies are available. I guess this something to do with broadcast rights, but the crushing disappointment of seeing a trailer for a movie not available in the region you're in is huge! That's the only reason this isn't a five-star review. Read more
